Don’t know where you are today but here in Maryland it’s over 100 degrees! I like hot weather but not fry an egg on the sidewalk kind of hot!
Speaking of HOT, I’ve been busy working on my new book LICK AND A PROMISE, Diary of a Rock Star Groupie, yes same name as my blog, imagine that! Looking for a late summer release! More later…
Wanted to introduce you to a cool band I recently had the pleasure of meeting. They are an orignal band from Maryland called STATIC FRENZY!
The guys are super cute and oh so nice and charming and if you get a chance to listen to them, you’ll enjoy them as much as I do!
Check them out!
Disillusioned with the local music scene and a lack of musicians who wanted to create music rather then play covers of other artists, Robert Burkholder who grew up in Middletown, decided to pick up a guitar and microphone and started writing his own music.
Having spent his life playing drums, it was natural for him to get behind a drum set and a set of cymbals. “My mother was a saint! She encouraged me to keep playing!”
A veteran of several local bands in and around the area, he reconnected with old friend Mark Lolli from Brunswick, who had been in two other bands with him. They had been friends since the age of 16 and together they decided to “start banging things out.”
In the beginning, Robert had been performing all the guitar, drum, keyboards and vocal parts with Mark playing bass.
Mark, a local carpenter and graduate of Brunswick High School, is also a veteran of several local bands from the area and says, “I have rock-n-roll roots!” He also enjoys life in Brunswick and playing local clubs like the most recent Lallo’s Pizza on Jefferson Pike. “Juan (the owner) has a good appreciation of music. It‘s nice to have a local place to play.”
Robert, longing to step out from behind the drums and play guitar, the band added a drummer and begin lining up gigs. Not long after the band found some local success, the drummer quit the band and Robert got behind the drums again.
Needing another guitar player, Robert called longtime friend Dave Cole of Walkersville, whom he had known from another band, to take up guitar.
Dave, a veteran of the band “Steele Rain”, had left the music scene in 1991, and has spent 30 years in the construction business.
Robert, oh so charming and convincing, got him to join in a practice session one evening back in August of 2011 and as Dave says, “I was never asked to leave.”
Together the guys formed the Alternative/Hard Rock band STATIC FRENZY.
The band performs mostly original songs and has recently released their first CD on the label Elysium Fields Records titled, ELYSIUM WRATH.
Songs like “Rattle Me” (my favorite) and “Texas” will get the dance floor moving and you can see for yourself at their next gig on Saturday June 30 when they play Belles Sports Bar and Grill in Frederick, Maryland. Doors open at 8pm.
They will do a cover song from time to time but as Robert says, “We are becoming more choosy.”
The band is getting quite a following at local gigs and online, but sorry girls, the guys are all taken.
Robert and his wife Valerie have two children, Dave has a stepson Daniel with his “awesome” wife Candy, and Mark is married with five kids.
Robert adds, STATIC FRENZY is currently looking for a new drummer so he can go back to playing guitar. His mom won’t be happy. “She never told me to stop playing drums!”
